TL5338 BRIDGE END GARDENS 669-1/1/356 Kitchen Garden wall

GV II

Garden wall on 3 sides of old kitchen garden comprising N boundary wall of Bridge End Gardens. 2 lengths, SE-NW each of 50m, linking length SW-NE 73m, 3.07m high. Date plaque 1840-G (Gibson). Red brick in Flemish bond. NW wall has some burnt bricks included. Exterior pilaster buttresses. SW wall has brick semicircular coping with lower side roll and cavetto each side. Simple wide gateway with plain brick piers and adjacent pedestrian doorway, both now with C20 board and battened doors. Ground rises to NW and wall shaped up towards NW end. NW wall: plain brick coping with square set brick dentils. Date plaque central on internal face. NE end has some C20 rebuilding with an internal ramped buttress. SW end has C20 red brick lean to shed in internal angle with SW wall, corrugated asbestos cement roof, boarded and battened door. NE wall: similar to NW wall but brick dentils set diagonally. Wall shaped down 4 times to accommodate hill slope. S end has C20 flat roofed Fletton brick shed within garden.
