Description

The gates on the west side at the approach from Bridge Street in Saffron Walden are an ornamental iron gate dating from around 1840. They are set between square red brick piers that feature recessed panels and moulded terracotta cornices, each topped with terracotta eagles—one with wings spread and the other with wings folded. The gate consists of two leaves adorned with scroll and leaf decoration. The frame of the gateway is enhanced with a cresting of similar ironwork.
