TL5338 BRIDGE END GARDENS 669-1/1/358 Summerhouse at north-west corner of 01/11/72 gardens

GV II

Pavilion. 1839/40. Yellow-grey gault brick. Octagonal plan, aligned SE-NW with front face on SE side, lead dome above a coved cornice. 5 sides have segment headed sash windows with glazing bars, 3x4 panes, 2 blank on N and E sides. Decorative recessed wooden panels below, moulded cement architraves with ornamental keystones (faces, but now mostly eroded or missing), also ground level consoles. Doorway approached by step, door of 2 leaves similar to windows, recessed arched panel above with coved bracket now missing classical bust (recorded previously), similar coved bracket on blank N wall. Rear NW window has a half round external step. INTERIOR: Ionic angle pilasters and an inscribed frieze in memory of Francis Gibson. The 2 blank N and E walls are each painted with vine branches, birds and putto. Tiled floor ornamented with central leaf decorated roundel and a surrounding circlet of Greek key pattern.
