Description

The gate piers and gates located 40 meters east of The Gateway date from the early 19th century. They are made of local lias stone and feature wrought and cast-iron gates. The piers are plain and square in shape, topped with thin caps. The gates have diagonal patterned side standards in a Regency style, with sweeping curves and braces. The top and middle rails of the gates are adorned with arrowhead points, while the bottom rails feature diamond ornaments. These structures contribute to the streetscape and enhance the setting of The Gateway.
