Description
23 and 25 Bridge Street are a pair of houses dating from the 18th century. They are timber-framed and plastered with ashlar lining, topped by a slate roof and featuring a central red brick chimney stack. The original house has an L-shaped plan, with a 20th-century extension added to No. 23.
Both houses are two stories tall. The east front elevation shows that each house has one window on the ground and first floors, featuring double casements with glazing bars and four panes by three panes. No. 23 retains its 19th-century flush boarded front door and hinged ground floor window shutter, while No. 25 has had these features renewed in the 20th century, with its front door now designed in a double 'stable' style. The doors are positioned at the outer edge of each house. The roof is half hipped at the northern end, and the chimney stack is set forward in the front roof pitch.
On the rear, the west extension of both houses includes early 20th-century three-light casement windows with glazing bars and three panes by three panes on the first floor. The ground floor of No. 23 features a simple 20th-century three-light casement window and a door with an upper glazed panel. No. 25 has a flat-roofed single-storey extension with an indented plain door on the northern face, along with a single-light casement and a two-light casement on the southern face.
Inside, No. 25 has slender ceiling joists visible on the ground floor and a segment-headed fireplace.
