Description

Britton's Farmhouse is a late 17th century to early 18th century building constructed of rubble with quoins. It features a modern pantile roof with coped verges and square ashlar stacks that have moulded caps. The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics, which are adorned with two dormer gables that also have coping and saddlestones.

The front of the house has five windows, which are 2-light casements with stone mullions. There is an additional single light window range to the left, which lights a cupboard next to the fireplace on the ground floor. Above the windows, there is a weathered string course, drip moulds at the attic level, and flush relieving arches. The ground floor windows have been lengthened by lowering their cills.

The central door opening has an arched head with a carved keystone set in a square moulded frame, with mouldings that stop at the base. The door itself is studded and fitted with strap hinges.

At the rear, there are two parallel gabled ranges, partly covered with stone tiles, and a slightly set-back gabled projection that serves as a stair-turret in the angle. The gables have chimneys, with the left-hand one featuring moulding. The rear also displays a variety of 18th century glazing bar sashes and 2-light mullion windows with drips.

To the left of the front, there is a two-bay, two-storey mid-19th century wing that projects out, which incorporates an earlier bay and extends as a late 17th century gabled wing to the rear. Inside, there is a large wide chamfered fireplace with a wooden lintel.
