PUCKLECHURCH LYDE GREEN Barn south south west of Lyde Green Farmhouse

Barn and integral stables with loft. Circa early C18. Coursed limestone rubble. Clay double-Roman tile roof with gabled ends. PLAN: 4-bay barn and integral stable with loft in fifth bay at east end. EXTERIOR: Cart entrances off centre on north and south fronts with ventilation slits to right and left. North front has stable door to left with loft doorway above. Insubstantial C20 accretions on north and south fronts. INTERIOR: 4-bay barn has tie-beam trusses with large chamfered tie-beams with run-out stops and small collars mortice and tenoned to the principal rafters; two tiers of tenoned purlins, all chamfered with run-out stops; common-rafter couples intact. Stone flag threshing floor. Stables at east end with loft floor supported on chamfered cross-beam and roof comprising purlins spanning the bay, the common-rafters replaced. An essentially complete early C18 stone barn in a good farmstead group.
