Description
Cliff Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, with a front that was remodeled in the 19th century and some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with stone dressings and features a plain tiled roof with gable stacks, a single Roman tiled roof at the rear, and a double Roman tiled addition on the right side. The building originally had a through passage plan and presents a symmetrical appearance at both the front and rear.
The farmhouse is 2½ storeys high and has three windows on the front. The ground floor includes two 4-light wooden casements with wedge-shaped stone heads, a central gabled early 20th-century porch, and a door. On the first floor, there are two 3-light casements and a central single light. The two large gables rise to ridge height, each featuring a 2-light casement. Attached to the right is a 1½ storey 17th-century wing, which has a similar 3-light casement on the ground floor, while a single-storey lean-to with a 20th-century door is attached to the left.
On the right return, the gable end of the 1½ storey wing has a ground floor 3-light casement with wooden ovolo mullions, and a door to the left, with heads similar to those on the front. There is also a 3-light 19th-century casement on the first floor. The lower 1½ storey rear wing features a 3-light 20th-century casement, a 2-light casement, and a similar casement under the eaves, along with a roof-light. The rear of this wing has a 3-light casement on the first floor and a further single-storey addition with two doors.
The left return includes a single-storey lean-to with a 2-light casement that has a chamfered wooden mullion. At the rear, the ground floor has two 19th-century 4-light casements with wedge-shaped heads and a high relieving arch, along with a small central light that was formerly a door. The first floor features two 3-light casements with stone ovolo mullions, hood moulds, and high relieving arches, as well as a central oval keyed bull's eye in a rectangular surround with shields. The two gables at the rear mirror those at the front, each with a similar 2-light ovolo-moulded casement and plain bargeboards.
Inside, the 1½ storey wing to the right has a heavy chamfered and stopped beam, but the rest of the interior is not accessible.
