Description

Whitehouse Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with additions from the 18th century and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of limestone rubble, rendered, and features a double Roman tiled roof with gable stacks and diagonal chimneys, as well as a pantiled rear roof from a former stable on the left side. The original through passage plan has been blocked by a 19th-century staircase.

The front of the house is symmetrical, standing two and a half storeys tall with five windows, all of which are two-light 19th-century casements. There are three gables that rise to the ridge height, each featuring a four-pane casement. The central entrance is a 19th-century four-panelled door with pilasters and an open pediment. To the left, there is an attached former stable that is two storeys high, and to the right, a two-storey addition with two windows that match those on the main house, located under the eaves at the first floor.

The rear of the house has three gables similar to the front, with some blocked windows. The first floor has three two-light casements, each with two panes. The ground floor features a central door and a 20th-century door to the left, while other windows have been blocked. At the time of the survey in October 1984, a 20th-century single-storey conservatory was under construction, and a former single-storey dairy attached to the rear right was in poor condition. To the right, the former stable has a high cart entry and a blocked first-floor window to the left of the stack on the left return of the house. On the left side, there is a lower wing with a 20th-century door and window.

The interior of the farmhouse was remodelled in the 19th century.
