Description
Dibden Farmhouse is a tall two-storey rubble building built between 1660 and 1662, likely for Philip Langley or possibly for his successor Robert Guest. The farmhouse features a Victorian pantile roof and has three chimneys, with the right-hand chimney made of stone and capped with stone. On the first floor, there are three windows, while the ground floor originally had four windows, one of which is now blocked. The windows are Victorian casements with lintels and relieving arches, and the right-hand ground floor window has arched French doors leading to the garden.
The central entrance is a Victorian gabled porch with an arched entrance and a moulded door surround, though only the lintel with ovolo moulding is original. The door itself is studded and features Victorian glass. There are traces of a 16th-century building at the rear, and the farmhouse is laid out in an 'L' shape with a stair turret in the angle. Disturbed masonry on the east gable wall likely indicates the site of a 17th-century oriel window mentioned in historical inventories.
Inside, there are several original features, including chamfered door surrounds. The kitchen door is adorned with trefoil-ended strap hinges. The ceilings are notably high for the period. The east room on the ground floor has a slightly cambered lintel above the fireplace and a shell-niche display cupboard to the left. The first-floor room features a good contemporary fireplace with a Tudor arch and a fluted frieze.
