Description
West Lodge, built around 1857-1860 by J.K. Colling for J.C. Orred of Ashwicke Hall, is a lodge associated with Ashwicke Hall. It is constructed from coursed squared rubble with freestone dressings and features a roof that is concealed behind an embattled parapet with a central stepped feature, all designed in a Gothic style. The building has an L-plan with a projecting west wing and consists of three bays, featuring 2- and 3-light cross windows with chamfered mullions and surrounds. There is a solid porch located in the re-entrant angle, which has an embattled parapet and a chamfered doorcase with a 4-centred head.
A 10-foot high coursed squared rubble wall encloses a small rear yard. The gates, gate piers, and railings include square ashlar outer piers topped with crested caps and a cornice decorated with a band of fleurons. To the left, there are wrought iron gates and railings on a low wall, along with a central pedestrian gateway that features a chamfered 4-centred arch, a band of fleurons, and a crested cap.
