Description
Rose Cottage is a mid-19th century house located on the north side of Ashwicke Road in Marshfield. It is constructed of rubble with freestone dressings, and has a Cotswold stone slate roof with coped raised verges, and ashlar stacks with cornices. The house is a single storey with attics, presented as three coped stone gables. There are two three-light casement windows with ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds, and drip moulds. A central plank door is set within a plain stone surround featuring a four-centred head and a drip mould. It may have originally been a school, and demonstrates a skilled use of mid-to-late 17th century vernacular details.
