Description
West Lodge to Matfen Hall is a lodge built around 1830, likely designed by Rickman for Sir Edward Blackett. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a slate roof and features wooden bargeboards, showcasing a Tudor style. The building has an L-plan layout, consisting of two storeys and three bays. The right bay projects and has a cross-gabled design, with a canted bay window on the ground floor that includes small-paned casements set in double-chamfered surrounds, topped with a stone slate pent roof. The other windows are of two lights, also in similar surrounds. The left bay features a first-floor window in a gabled half dormer.
The lodge has a steeply-pitched gabled roof adorned with elaborate bargeboards and a tall square quadripartite ridge stack. There is a 20th-century door on the left return, and a 20th-century addition to the rear that is not of special interest.
