Description

The Church of the Holy Trinity is a parish church built between 1841 and 1842, with a tower and spire added in 1853 to 1854. It was designed by and for Sir Edward Blackett and is constructed of ashlar stone with a Welsh slate roof, showcasing an Early English architectural style.

The church features a west tower and spire, a nave, a chancel, and a vestry. The west doorway includes a studded door surrounded by decorative ironwork and framed by two orders of columns. The tower is three stages high, with angle buttresses, lancet windows on the first floor, and triple, shafted lancets on the second floor, where the outer lights are blind. The tall broach spire is adorned with lucarnes and an elaborate vane. On the south side of the tower, there are external stone stairs with a solid stone balustrade leading to the bell-ringers' chamber.

The nave has four bays, featuring lancet windows with double-chamfered surrounds set in shallow recesses, supported by close-set moulded brackets beneath the eaves. Buttresses are positioned between the windows, and there is a rose window in the east gable.

The small chancel has two bays, with a priest's door that has a shouldered lintel and lancet windows. The east window consists of three stepped lancets, and the roof is gabled with overlapping coping.

Inside, the chancel wall displays four 17th-century alabaster Baroque panels depicting scenes from the nativity, believed to be of Dutch origin and of very high quality. The interior also features a naturalistic wood eagle lectern, a Gothic wood pulpit, and a brass communion rail.
