Description
The Estate Yard and Old Forge, which includes a saw mill, offices, and timber yard, was built around 1880 for the Earl of Ducie's estate. The buildings are constructed from rubble and feature 20th-century tiled roofs. This long range of structures is divided into two parts, all of which are single storey with attics in gabled dormers.
On the left side, there is a gabled projecting porch with two 2-light casement windows in gabled dormers. A central depressed arch carriage entry is also under a gable, with a further plank door to the right and a bellcote over the east gable. The right range has a plank door and a 2-light window at the far right.
At the rear, there are three ranges of open sheds and workshops that enclose a yard, featuring slate and pantile roofs, with a carriage entry under a gable on the west range. Located about five yards to the northwest of the yard is the old forge, which is L-shaped with a plain tiled roof and a projecting lateral stack at the west end. The estate yard forms an important group with the nearby church, green, and cottages.
