Description

Earlier 19th century, with additions; alterations by J Laird

circa 1924. 2-storey house at south east corner of extensive sawmill/workshop complex. All stugged and snecked rubble with

ashlar dressings; roofed with graded slates.

House (now estate office): asymmetrical 3-bay design in the

manner of William Burn hood-moulded mullioned windows with

lying-pane glazing; east elevation has advanced gable left,

gabled porch in re-entrant angle; axial stacks with octagonal

flues. South elevation also 3 (2 + 1) bays.

Sawmill/workshops: some alterations and additions;

single-storey with lofts; principal courtyard linked with

house, lesser courtyard to west (these linked via pend).

Long north range (sawmill) has gabled wide wheel house beside

2 large windows at west end of otherwise blank north

elevation; high wall with square gatepiers links (raised)

east gable of latter range with house. South range

(workshop) has long, 13-bay south elevation, gate to lesser

court at west gable, (altered) gatehouse at west end.

Timber-stores open to courtyard with most roofs supported on

cast-iron columns; segmental cart arches to some gables;

small-paned glazing throughout. Coped apex stacks.
