Description
A pair of villas dating from the 1860s, forming part of a planned development. The houses are constructed of stucco, with stucco detailing, and have a roof concealed behind a balustraded parapet with a moulded cornice. Stuccoed end stacks are present, most featuring a moulded entablature. The plan is double-depth, with a narrower layout to the rear, and each house likely has two front rooms flanking an entrance hall, fronted by a small porch.
The exterior has a symmetrical 1:3:3:1 window arrangement, with projecting end bays. Horned sash windows or French windows fill segmental-arched first-floor openings. The mostly rusticated ground floor features flat arches over tripartite sashes to the end bays and paired sashes to the central bays. Porches are positioned under the second window from the left and right, incorporating pilastered doorways and pilastered side return bays, with panelled and balustraded parapets above a moulded entablature with brackets. The porches have overlights and panelled doors. The rear elevation features a 1:2:2:1 bay arrangement, with the end bays broken forward and incorporating balustraded and bracketed canted bays to the ground floor. Number 1 has moulded eared architraves, and a mullioned and transomed glazed first-floor conservatory with a blind balustraded apron to the left return towards the angle.
The interior has not been inspected but is expected to reflect the quality of the exterior. The buildings form part of a distinctive, planned group of semi-detached villas.
