Description
Farmhouse. Dating from the late 16th/early 17th century, it may have been remodelled from an earlier building. The farmhouse is rendered with a double Roman tiled roof and brick stacks. It has two storeys and a single storey with attic space in half-dormers to the right. There are five windows: a mix of sash windows, some with glazing bars and others being large-pane sashes. The windows to the left of the porch have ovolo moulded lintels and dripmoulds. A projecting, gabled, two-storey porch is positioned off-centre. The two bays to the right of the porch are on a slightly lower level. The inner door is panelled and studded with strap hinges having fleur-de-lys ends and a pointed head, set within a pointed and chamfered ashlar surround. A similar rear door is also present. A two-storey rear (north) wing features a three-light casement window with ovolo moulded mullions at its south end. The interior includes chamfered beams with scroll stops and fireplace lintels with run-out stops. The hall has a framed ceiling with an elaborate hollow moulding; the fireplace has ashlar jambs with hollow/ovolo mouldings and stops, and a decorative carved lintel (restored). The hall chamber has a hollow moulded lintel to a blocked fireplace. The original plan was likely a cross-passage layout, with a hall and parlour to the right and service rooms to the left.
