Description

East End House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It features painted rubble with freestone dressings, part rendered, and has a double Roman tiled roof with gable stacks and a tiled porch. The house has a former cross passage plan and is two storeys high with four windows, all of which are 2-light casements, larger on the ground floor. The central gabled porch has a 19th-century two-centred stone arched opening with a moulded frame and lintel for the door.

On the right side, there is a narrow single light window on both the ground and first floors, a 2-light attic casement, and a catslide roof to the rear with a 20th-century porch attached. The left side features a former door with a timber lintel to the left, a 20th-century 2-light window inserted, a 2-light attic casement, and a visible line of a lower roof at the gable end. The rear is rendered with a catslide roof and includes 2-light, 3-light, and single light 20th-century casements, along with a roof light and a 20th-century door to the right side of the catslide, which has a four-centred arched head.

The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey in March 1985, but previous descriptions indicate that the ground and first floors have chamfered beams with scroll stops. The west room has an inglenook and an 18th-century cupboard with fielded panels, while the east room has a blocked inglenook behind an 18th-century moulded surround and an adjacent spice cupboard. The passage has been widened to accommodate a flight of stairs with a 19th-century moulded handrail and turned balusters, and there is a winder stair leading from the first floor to the attic on the west side.
