Description
This is a barn built in the 18th century, located 150 metres west of Silverbridge farmhouse. The gable end has been rebuilt and features a datestone from 1846. The walls are made of coursed lias stone and rubble stone, which are evenly banded. The roof is thatched, with gable ends and stone gable copings on both the barn and the lower cart shed. The barn is taller than the cart shed, which has a pitch door in the east gable and an enlarged opening in the east wall. The attached cart shed dates from the 17th century and consists of four bays. On the north side, there are three large rubble-stone piers that are open. Above these piers, there are brick round arches with flush rubble-filled spandrels. Heavy tie-beams extend from the tops of the piers and are bedded into the rear wall. The roof structure features collar-beam trusses with renewed butt-purlins and plated yokes.
