Description
This building is a barn and cart shed located approximately 50 metres south of Hall Mill Farmhouse, dating from the mid-17th century. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a coursed sandstone rubble plinth, with the gable end to the south rebuilt in late 18th century red brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The structure consists of four framed bays arranged roughly north-south, with a three-bay barn to the south and a cartshed to the north.
The framing includes large square panels, with two extending from the sole-plate to the wall-plate. On the west front, the barn is to the right, showcasing three boarded loft doors and a central pair of large boarded doors, while the cartshed is to the left. Inside, there are collar and cambered tie-beam trusses with queen struts, end trusses with V-struts, pairs of purlins with wind braces, cross-frames with central posts, and angle and tension braces. It is likely that the barn was constructed around the same time as Hall Mill Farmhouse to the north.
