Description

The Porch House is a house, now divided, dating to 1664, with 20th-century additions at the rear. It is timber framed, set on a rubble stone plinth with painted brick nogging, and has a plain tile roof. The house has a T-shaped baffle-entry plan of two framed bays, with a porch to the south. It is one storey and has an attic. The timber framing features square panels (three from sole-plate to wall-plate), with long straight tension braces. The porch has some light framing that may be from the 18th century. A central brick ridge stack is present, and there is a gabled eaves dormer to the right with a two-light wooden casement. On the ground floor are two three-light 19th-century wooden casements. The central porch is two storeys high with a one-light attic casement, a ground-floor two-light casement, and a 20th-century panelled door in the right-hand return front. To the left is a gabled brick porch with a cross-casement facing forward and a two-leaf boarded door in the right-hand return front. The porch has an exposed collar truss with V-struts and a painted date. The gable ends show exposed collar and tie-beam trusses with queen-struts and V-struts. The interior was not inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
