Description

Champsland is a single house dating to the late 17th century. It is constructed with ashlar lias stone on its front facade, while the left-hand bay, originally a dairy, is of rubble stone construction. The roof is thatched, with a hipped section on the left and a gabled section on the right, and includes renewed brick stacks at both the left-hand hip and the right-hand gables. The house has two storeys and originally three windows, with a further two windows on the left-hand side. The windows are renewed 3-light wooden casements with glazing bars, and have wooden cills and lintels. Upper floor windows include small leaded lights. The front door, positioned right of centre, is made of wood with six recessed panels. A thatched gabled porch, weather-boarded at the front and supported by two wooden posts, shelters the main entrance. A plank door with strap-hinges and a heavy wooden frame is located on the left-hand side. Inside, the ceiling features mid-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The house includes a large open fireplace with a wooden lintel and the former dairy has heavier chamfered beams with filleted stops. Window shutters with recessed panels are present throughout the property.
