Description
The Chapel of St Gabriel is a ruined chapel that was formerly a chapel-of-ease to Whitchurch Canonicorum, dating from the 14th and 17th centuries. The walls are made of coursed rubble stone and stand approximately 4 feet high. The structure is rectangular, comprising both nave and chancel in one space. There is a south porch with stone quoins that rises to about 9 feet. The south doorway may date back to the 14th century. In the south chancel wall, there are remains of a stone window jamb with straight-chamfered sides. The chapel is currently in the process of restoration and is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
