Description
The Church of St Gabriel is a Chapel-of-Ease built in 1841 on a new site. It features a nave and chancel with rubble walls and ashlar stone quoins. The roof is slate with stone gable copings, and there is a sanctus bell cote at the west gable end, topped with a stone coping and cross. The west end has a porch with a trefoil panel carved with "God is Love." The entrance is a 2-centred arch with a straight chamfer. There is a north vestry with a lower pitched roof and a pointed door in the west wall. The entire structure is one storey high, with paired stone mullion windows that have 4-centred heads. The chancel windows are trefoil-cusped and have labels above.
Inside, the chancel arch has straight chamfers and sunk quadrant mouldings that die into the responds. The chancel roof features wooden scissor-bracing, and the east window has ogee panel tracery. A wooden rood-beam and attached responds were salvaged from the old St Gabriel's Church. The pulpit is hexagonal and made of wood, with plain trefoil-cusped panels. The font is a 19th-century stone bowl and stem with one band of interlace ornament.
