Description

The Shieling is a 18th-century single cottage located on Ryall Road in Whitchurch Canonicorum. It features washed rubble walls and a patent tile roof with gable ends. The cottage is one and a half storeys high and has three wooden casement windows with wood glazing bars, one of which includes lead lights. The front door, situated at the former center of the building, is a plank door with a wooden frame. A brick stack is located at the former left-hand gable. Inside, there is a large open fireplace with brick jambs and a chamfered wooden lintel above. The cottage has a gable end facing the lane and forms a matching pair with Birds Cottage.
