Description

The Meech Monument is a table-tomb located 14 metres west-north-west of the tower of the Church of St Michael in Winterborne Steepleton. It dates from the mid-17th century and is made of stone. The tomb features two blind semi-circular panels on each side and has a flat top block. One end-block is adorned with a carved cartouche, while the opposite end-block displays a shield with a shell-head above it. Additionally, there are two rosettes on the south side of the tomb. The inscriptions commemorate Richard Meech the elder, who died in 1659, and Richard Meech the younger, who died on 23rd July 1703.
