Description
The Meacham chest tomb, located approximately 4 metres north-west of Newhouse Baptist Church, is a Grade II listed structure dated 1739 in memory of Thomas Meacham. Made of hamstone, the chest tomb has a rectangular shape and features a soffit-moulded lid with a low-pitched ridge on top. The plinth is currently buried. The sides of the tomb are adorned with rectangular panels that have bead-moulded surrounds, with two panels on each long side and one on each end. The southern panels are inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. The left panel commemorates the death of Thomas Meacham in 1739, while the right panel honors his son, also named Thomas, although no date of death is provided.
