Description
Abbey House is a three-storey building located on Abbey Road, dating from around 1840. The right side of the front is set back and constructed of stone ashlar, featuring a neo-classical design with three windows. The second floor has sash windows with glazing bars, while the building displays chamfered quoins and a coved cornice adorned with honeysuckle enrichment. There are dormers present, and the central first-floor window is flanked by scrolls and has a semi-circular tympanum with a low relief base. The building features a projecting Roman Doric porch supported by fluted columns and antae, with a porch cornice that has an enriched cove similar to the main cornice. The frieze is decorated with vine ornament, and the door panels are also enriched. At the back, there is a staircase wing with round-headed windows. Currently, Abbey House serves as a boarding house for Sherborne School.
