Custos Lodge At Sherborne School

Custos Lodge at Sherborne School is a building dating from 1625, located on the southeast side of Abbey Road. It features a south front that consists of one storey and an attic, topped with a plain-tile roof that has stone coping and kneelers. The stone walls are complemented by ashlar quoins.

On the right side of the upper section, there is a two-light mullioned window with a gable above each light, both having four-centred heads and carved spandrels. To the left, a small projecting corbelled chimney stack is present, accompanied by a small single-light cusp-headed window to the right.

On the ground floor, at the right end, there is a moulded two-centred stone doorway with a door that has cover strips and elaborate hinges. To the left, there is a three-light window and a single-light window, both featuring four-centred heads. The west gable end includes a two-light window above and below, with four-centred heads and dripmoulds. Access to Custos Lodge is through the adjoining Tower.

This building is part of a group that includes other structures of Sherborne School, surrounding the greens immediately to the north of the Abbey Church of St Mary.
