Description

Three monuments, including the one for John Hopkins, are located in the churchyard, 3 to 5 metres north of the nave of the Church of St Mary. These table tombs date from the 17th and 18th centuries and are made of stone.

The westernmost tomb features plain sides and bulbous moulded end blocks, topped with a hipped block. It is inscribed, "Here lies the body of John Hopkins .... died 1734." The easternmost tomb has moulded end blocks adorned with an angel-bust and rosettes. Each side displays two semi-circular panels with nail-heads in the arches, a moulded cornice, and a flat top block, dated 1694. The northern tomb also has two semi-circular panels on each side with nail-heads in the arches and large rosettes on the end blocks, featuring a capital letter inscription.
