Description
Higher Holway Farm is a detached farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with some changes made in the 20th century, including the alteration of windows and consolidation of walls. The building features chalk block walls set on a rubble stone plinth, with roughcast finish. It has clay tile roofs with gable ends and stone gable copings, along with roughcast stacks at the south gable end and at the ridge center. The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics and has four windows; the ground floor windows are three-light wooden casements with glazing bars and rendered surrounds, dating from the 20th century. The upper windows are three-light stone mullions that are hollow-chamfered, featuring iron casements and lead lights. There are also 20th-century dormers inserted into the roof, which have hipped tile roofs. The main door, located to the left of center, is a flush-panelled design with sixteen glass panes, altered in the 19th century, while the door at the right end is from the 20th century. Inside, the south end room has heavy-chamfered ceiling beams from the 17th century.
