Description
Metford Mill is a detached farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, featuring a later bakehouse that is positioned at right angles to the main structure, along with 20th-century changes to the windows. The walls are constructed of rubble-stone and chalk block, topped with a thatch roof that has gable ends. There is a brick stack on the right-hand gable, which was renewed in the 18th century, and a rendered stack on the left-hand gable. The west wall has been rebuilt using reconstituted stone.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics and has four windows that are three-light wooden casements, complete with glazing bars, wooden sills, and lintels, all dating from the 20th century. The front door features four flush panels and two top lights, set within a wooden frame from the 19th century.
The bakehouse, located at the southeast corner, has rubble-stone walls and a tiled roof, with a bread oven that protrudes in a semi-circular shape. Additionally, there is a converted byre at the east end of the farmhouse, which has a plank door with two top lights and a wooden lintel above, supported by brick jambs.
