Description
The Plume of Feathers Hotel is a Grade II listed building located on Half Moon Street, dating back to 1625. The hotel features a stone front divided into two distinct sections. The right side, built in the 19th century, is two storeys high with one bay facing Half Moon Street and another bay that rounds the corner to face south-west. It has a slate hipped roof and an ashlar front, with sash windows that retain their glazing bars. On the ground floor facing Half Moon Street, there is a taller window and a square-headed doorway with ashlar dressings.
The left side of the building is a lower three-storey section with a two-window bay front, which retains 16th or early 17th century stone mullioned windows set at different levels compared to the right side. The upper floors feature head moulds above the windows. The ground floor has a continuous fascia above the doorway and two two-tier windows, one with four lights and the other with five lights. Above the doorway, there are small brackets and a dentil moulding.
The Plume of Feathers Hotel, along with The Corner House, premises occupied by Sherborne Supermarket, and The House of Steps, forms a group with the premises occupied by C B Brett and Sons on Digby Road.
