Description
The Red Lion Hotel is a Grade II listed hotel located on the east side of Lambourn Market Place. The building features a 19th-century block that is two storeys high with a slate roof and a flanking chimney on the left. It is constructed of squared sarsen stone with brick quoins and dressings, a first-floor band, and a brick and sarsen plinth. The front has four tall vertical sliding sash windows with glazing bars and near flush frames on the first floor, while the ground floor includes three mullion and transom casements, with the second from the left incorporating a door. There is a double door set in a three-centred arched opening, complete with a stone key and imposts, and a radiating fanlight to the right.
Adjacent to this, fronting Newbury Street, is an 18th-century block that stands three storeys tall, made of vitreous brick with red brick pilasters extending to the full height of the building. It has a hipped tiled roof with a central chimney and overhanging eaves. The Market Place side features one window, while the Newbury Street side has four vertical sliding sash windows with glazing bars set in reveals. There are double doors in a simple surround located in the second bay from the right.
