Description

The Noel Arms Hotel is a Grade II listed building located on the south-east side of High Street. The main block of the hotel dates from the mid-18th century and is constructed of ashlar stone with a first-floor plat band and a Cotswold stone roof. It features two storeys and attics, with three windows; the outer windows are paired 12-pane sashes, while the central window on the first floor is a single 16-pane sash. The central doorway has a panelled door, a fanlight, and a segmental hood above it. The building also has a moulded eaves cornice, four gabled dormers, and ashlar end stacks.

To the south, there is a small, low extension from the mid-19th century with a pedimented gable. The north wing, likely from the 18th century, is made of rubble and has a Cotswold stone roof. It has two storeys and an attic, with two windows below and three above, most of which are sashes with glazing bars. There is a modern door with an octagonal light above it and one gabled dormer.

The north extension, dating from the mid to late 19th century in a 17th-century style, is also constructed of ashlar with a Cotswold stone roof. It has two storeys, with a large gable on the left featuring a large five-light oriel window, and a smaller gable on the right with a two-light stone mullion window above a four-centred carriage arch with a drip-mould. The building has tall ashlar stacks, one of which has paired diagonal shafts and moulded caps. At the rear, there is a picturesque courtyard with a long outbuilding that includes stone granary stairs to the north-west.
