Description
The Town Hall, formerly listed under Market Place, is a Grade II* building that was remodelled in 1897 and incorporates late medieval and 17th century features. It is said to include materials from a Norman chapel dedicated to St Catherine, which dates back to 1180. The structure is built of coursed rubble with a Cotswold stone roof and stands two storeys tall with three bays and irregular fenestration.
On the south side, there are two restored first floor windows and two probably 17th century windows below, along with two medieval buttresses featuring tracery panels and a low-shelter pentise above. A small door is located to the left. The west gable has a lunette at the gable and a vase at the apex of the verge. The north front features blocked first floor windows, three blocked two-light windows on the ground floor with moulded heads, and a blocked door. The east front includes an entry lobby to the first floor, with verges that have side pinnacles and an ogee-capped belfry.
