Description
The Post Office, dating from the early 18th century, has been restored by Norman Jewson. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a Cotswold stone roof and features two storeys plus an attic. The building has a modern 'period' bowed shop front with a central doorway. On the first floor, there are four sash windows with glazing bars and moulded cills, which are grouped in pairs and separated by three fluted Ionic pilasters of unusual design. A modillion eaves cornice runs along the top, and the steeply pitched roof is adorned with three modern pedimented dormers and ashlar stacks. The architectural treatment of the front is similar to that of The Martins across the street, which dates to 1714.
