Description
Damers Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th to early 17th century. It originally functioned as a long-house with a stack at the upper end. The byre was rebuilt in the late 17th to 18th century, but it has recently been demolished and replaced by a new extension to the house. An outbuilding at the east end has also been incorporated into the house.
The walls are constructed of brick and stone, with the front wall buttressed. The roof is thatched, featuring brick stacks, and the building has one storey and an attic. There is a later single-storey lean-to at the rear, made of brick with a slate roof. The entrance door is located in a brick porch topped with a thatched roof.
On the ground floor, excluding the area under reconstruction, there are three casement windows with glazing bars. The attic contains four half-dormers with similar casements. Inside, the main ground floor room has a large stone fireplace at the east end, complete with an oak lintel and a bread oven. There is a chamfered ceiling beam, and remnants of a late 17th to 18th-century plank and muntin partition between this room and a smaller room to the west. A later stack is found in the smaller room adjoining the byre. The roof retains parts of two jointed-cruck trusses, which show signs of blackening, suggesting that it may have originally featured an open hall.
