Description
Nos 14 and 15 East Chaldon are a pair of cottages, likely built in the mid-19th century, though they may have earlier origins. They feature rubble stone walls, a slate roof, and brick stacks, and are positioned at right angles to the road. The cottages are two storeys tall.
The elevation facing the road includes a single-storey extension to the west with a ledged door. On the ground floor, there are three casement windows with glazing bars, one of which has replaced a door. The first floor has two horizontally sliding sash windows, also with glazing bars. The main elevation, which faces east, has three part-glazed ledged doors. The ground floor again has three casement windows with glazing bars, while the first floor features five similar windows. There is evidence of a blocked door in the centre of this elevation.
On the south-east corner, there is a quoin stone, likely re-set, that has the date 1673 carved into it. The cottages are included in the listing for their group value.
