Description

The Parish Church of St Nicholas is a church with origins dating back to the 14th century, which has been partly rebuilt and enlarged in the 19th century. It features stone walls, with roofs that are partly tiled and partly stone slated. The church has gabled roofs with parapets and consists of a nave, a south aisle with three bays, a chancel that includes an organ chamber on the south side, a west tower, and a north porch. The nave, porch, and tower are from the 14th century, while the chancel, aisle, and organ chamber were added in the 19th century.

The tower has two stages, with the lower stage supported by angle buttresses. It includes small slit windows on the north and south walls, although the south wall window has been built up. There is a two-light late 14th century window in the west wall, and the upper stage, or belfry, features 14th century two-light windows. The tower is topped with a parapet that has battlements. The north porch has a moulded 14th century arch leading to the doorway. The north wall of the nave contains square-headed 14th century windows with two and three lights, some of which were renewed in the 19th century.

The chancel, which was rebuilt in the 19th century, incorporates a re-used 14th century traceried three-light window in the east wall, along with two-light windows in the north and south walls. Inside, all the roofs are from the 19th century and made of pine. The church has a plain cylindrical font from the 12th century and several 18th century monuments located at the base of the tower. Other internal fittings are all from the 19th century. The churchyard contains several 18th century headstones and one table tomb with ornamental iron railings.
