Description

CHURCH KNOWLE CHURCH KNOWLE VILLAGE SY 9381 12/44 The Old Cottage GV II Detached house. Probably C17. Colourwashed rubble stone walls, hipped thatched roof, plastered stacks. One storey and attic. 2 ledged door and one part-glazed door. Ground floor has 2 double- hung sash windows with centre glazing bar. Attic has two half- dormers with casements, and one small casement under eaves, all with glazing bars. Section at east end a former stable, now incorporated in the house. Small lean-to at rear, and a larger C20 extension with mono-pitch roof. Timber lean-to garage at west end. Main ground floor room has large open fireplace - altered - with bread oven, and one stop-chamfered ceiling beam. Plank and muntin partitions on both floors. RCHM Monument 9 (Dorset Vol II).
