Description
Langtoft is a detached house dating from the early to mid-17th century, with an extension to the south that likely occurred in the 18th century. The building features rubble stone walls that have been colourwashed, a thatched roof, and brick stacks at both ends and one near the center. It is one storey with an attic. The front has two part-glazed ledged doors and three casement windows on the ground floor: one with diamond lead lights, one with horizontal glazing bars, and one plain. The attic includes two dormers, one retaining remnants of lead lights and the other with glazing bars. At the rear, there are two lean-tos with stone slate roofs. Inside, one ground floor room boasts a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and a bread oven. The interior features some deep stop-chamfered ceiling beams and remains of a plank and muntin partition on the ground floor. The roof structure appears to be original. Langtoft is a property of the National Trust and is recorded as RCHM Monument 21 in Dorset Volume II.
