Description

The Green comprises a terrace of three cottages located on Heath Green Road in Studland. Number 26 dates to the 17th century, while numbers 24 and 25 were likely built in the 18th century. The cottages have walls of plastered cob, are roofed with thatch, and feature brick stacks on the ridge. They are one storey in height with attics.

Number 24, the right-hand cottage, features a 20th-century timber porch with a ledged door. It has a single casement window on the ground floor with horizontal glazing bars, and a dormer window in the attic with similar casements. A brick lean-to extension to the right includes a ledged door. Number 25, the central cottage, has a partly glazed door and three casement windows on the ground floor, two with horizontal glazing bars. A dormer window in the attic mirrors the style of the ground floor windows. Number 26, the left-hand cottage, has a ledged door and a single casement window on the ground floor. The attic features a dormer with casements including glazing bars. A lean-to extension to the left is built on an old stone base and has a corrugated asbestos roof.

The main ground floor room of number 25 contains a large open fireplace with a timber lintol, which has been partially built up. It retains one chamfered ceiling beam. Number 26’s main ground floor room also has a large open fireplace, partially built up, and several chamfered ceiling beams with ornamental bar stops. Evidence of smoke-blackening is visible on the roof timbers. The property is owned by the National Trust.
