Description
The Bankes family monument is a stone table tomb located approximately 3 meters east of the Thomas Hobson monument in the churchyard of the Church of Saint Nicholas in Studland. It commemorates various members of the Bankes family, with the earliest recorded date of death being 1855. The monument is designed in a Norman style, featuring a top with a chamfered edge that includes an inscription. The sides are panelled with blank arcading, showcasing round arches and semi-circular piers with scalloped caps. Inscriptions on the sides honor different family members, while a carved coat of arms is displayed on the west face. The monument is surrounded by cast iron railings topped with fleurs-de-lys finials and is included for its connection to the Bankes family.
