Description
Bridge House is a detached house dating from the mid to late 17th century. It features rubble stone walls and a thatched roof with coped gables and brick end stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic. The 18th-century raised panel door is located under a moulded hood supported by shaped brackets. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light and two 4-light stone mullioned windows with hoodmoulds, while the first floor has four similar 3-light windows.
Inside, the right ground floor room has a large open fireplace with a moulded timber lintel and deep chamfered ceiling beams, along with an arched recess by the fireplace. The left ground floor room also features a large open fireplace with a slightly cambered timber lintel and a bread oven, as well as deep chamfered ceiling beams. On the first floor, the left end room has a timber lintel from an original fireplace that is now blocked, while the right end room retains its original fireplace with a cambered lintel and stone jambs, along with deep chamfered ceiling beams. Some reused smoke-blackened roof timbers suggest that the house was reconstructed from an earlier open-hall house.
At the rear, there are three dormers with oak mullioned windows that still have remnants of lead lights. There is also a 20th-century rear lean-to with a corrugated roof.
