Description

The Old Rectory is a detached house, largely dating from the mid-19th century, although a part of the building may be of earlier origin. The house is constructed of stone with stone slate roofs, coped gables, and stone stacks. It has an irregular plan. The main west-facing front features a double-gabled projection on the south side, accentuated by an angle buttress. The entrance doorway is a four-centred arch with a hoodmould decorated with carved stops, and has a part-glazed door. Above the doorway is a triangular canted oriel window with a moulded base and capping. To the north of the door, a two-light mullioned and transomed window is set under a hoodmould. A similar window, without a transome, is located on the first floor. A projecting chimney stack is situated south of the door. To the north of the main block is a service range constructed of similar materials but with a simpler form, incorporating two gables and lower, flat-roofed projections. The windows in this range have unmoulded stone mullions. The garden front exhibits two canted bay windows with mullions and transomes on the ground floor, and three mullioned windows beneath the gables on the first floor.
