Description

HIGH WEST STREET 1. 5191 (North Side) No 42 SY 6890 7/65 II* 2. Variegated dull red brick with stone dressings. 3 window front, 2 storeys and attic. Early-mid Cl8. Rusticated stone quoins. Modillion cornice. Plaintile roof with 1 dormer. Sash windows have moulded stone architraves and keystones. Either the paint has been stripped from the contemporary doorcase or this is a restoration. It has round-headed opening, fanlight, pilasters and console brackets. Interior has "Carpenters' Gothic" staircase, with clustered columnar newel, delicate ramped hand- rail, Chinese Chippendale balustrade and exceptional Rococo ornament to closed string. Nos 41 to 45 (consec)form a group.
