Description
39 and 40 High West Street is a corner building dating from the early 19th century, featuring a mix of two and three storeys. The ground floors are constructed of rusticated stone, while the upper levels are made of yellow brick. The building has moulded stone cornices and blocking courses, topped with slate roofs and dormers.
The left side of the front has a two-storey section with two windows and two round-headed doorways that include fanlights on the ground floor. The first floor features tall sash windows. The right side is a three-storey section with three windows and no doorway; it has three tall sash windows on the first floor that are complemented by a decorative iron balcony with bowed ends. Additionally, the back of No 40 boasts a notable iron trellis balcony with a canopy on the first floor.
