Description
The Shell is a building dating from around the 17th century, located on the southeast side of Long Street. It is an L-shaped block with two storeys, which originally featured a drain or passageway running through the center to the road. The building has been recently restored and extensively altered to serve as a single dwelling. The walls are made of stone rubble and have been recently re-pointed. It has a new plain clay tile gabled roof supported by new roof timbers. The front of the building has two window bays. On the first floor, there are widely spaced two-light casement windows with small panes. The ground floor features two three-light casements and a six-panelled door within a frame. There are also new window openings and a staircase leading to the rear wing. The Shell is part of a group that includes Digby Estate Nos 271 to 274, Wyekham Cottage, Fernleigh, Mistletoe Cottage, Fairfields, The Malt House, Eastfields, Tyndall, Linden, The Cottage, and Corner House.
